Officials designate San Diego a Coast Guard City

On Feb. 23, 2017, the city of San Diego was officially designated as the 21st Coast Guard City in the nation during a ceremony at Sector San Diego. This designation also makes San Diego the largest Coast Guard City.

A team to call his own

Andrew Cortor, the son of Coast Guard Chief Warrant Officer Mark Cortor, uses baseball to overcome the challenges of being a military child. He was recently the only player from a Coast Guard family on the San Diego Destroyers, a team comprised entirely of children belonging to military families, during the 2016 Major League Baseball All Star Youth Classic.

Cutter Edisto helps wayward sea lion

As part of the service’s living marine resources mission, the Coast Guard teams up with a variety of organizations to aid in protecting and responding to distressed animals, including sea lions. Such was the case for Southern California crews with Franklin, a wayward sea lion.
