Wellness Wednesday: Healthy Lifestyle – Return on Investment for the organization

We do preventive maintenance on our ships to ensure they are ready when called to action, but sometimes we fail to provide maintenance on our most valuable asset – our people. No one knows when the next natural disaster or emergency will happen which will test the resiliency of our members. We do know that providing an atmosphere of a healthy lifestyle will improve morale, improve the health of our members, and help prepare them to meet all challenges.

10 things to help get you Semper Paratus

Semper Paratus takes on a new meaning during Personal Readiness Month. It means more than being ready for a search and rescue case. Personal Readiness Month is the Coast Guard’s way to remind everyone – active, reserve, auxiliary, family and friends – to really think about being ready.

Register now: ‘Crews into Shape’ challenge

Just in time for the Coast Guard April weigh-ins, the Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center, or NMCPHC, Health Promotion and Wellness Department announces the 16th Annual Crews Into Shape Challenge, which will take place March 6, 2016 to April 2, 2016. The Coast Guard Health Promotion Program and CG SUPRT encourage Coast Guard units to participate in the challenge in order to prepare for weigh-ins, promote overall wellness, and develop accountability within your unit.

Honor, Respect, Devotion to Duty: LT Hillary Allegretti

Anyone who meets Lt. Hillary Allegretti walks away with two distinct impressions – she loves the Coast Guard and is equally passionate about running. What baffles the mind is how she finds time to be so successful at both. When she dons her uniform, Allegretti serves as the waterways management chief and senior investigating officer for all federal marine casualties at Marine Safety Unit Cleveland. In her spare time, she is a marathoner who competes in Olympic-distance triathlons to “break the monotony of preparing for a marathon.”
