Boy Scouts get hands-on experience at Coast Guard Academy

The Coast Guard Academy, in cooperation with the Connecticut Rivers Council of the Boy Scouts of America, recently hosted a science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) merit badge program for over 120 Boy Scouts from five different states. Cadets and Academy instructors taught hands-on programs in chemistry, engineering, electricity and electronics, emergency preparedness and citizenship, among others.

Coast Guard offers unique educational experience at National Scout Jamboree

What’s the U.S. Coast Guard doing in West Virginia? That was a question Coast Guard members heard a lot during the 2013 National Scout Jamboree at the Summit Bechtel Reserve. As it turns out, the Coast Guard was at the jamboree to offer scouts and visitors a unique educational experience in boating safety, search and rescue, damage control and many other Coast Guard missions.
