The Cape Cod Military Support Foundation Inc. and the Otis Civilian Advisory Council hosted the 2017 Annual Military Awards Banquet where junior members for each agency were recognized for their outstanding contribution to Joint Base Cape Cod. This year, Port Security 301 nominated Petty Officer 1st Class Jessica Bonham for her outstanding service to the JBCC community and the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve forces.

In 2015, Bonham assumed the role of lead petty officer in a blind relief process, quickly reorganizing a division that had fallen into disarray. Bonham, a storekeeper, righted the ship in short order, and has since maintained a consistent high level of performance, dedication to continuous learning, and a focus on serving others with a humble approach to leading her team. Among her many noteworthy accomplishments during her assignment at PSU 301, she managed the unit capitalized property reports and acted as the primary financial reconciler of the unit’s accounts, ensuring accuracy and accountability in all financial and administrative transactions.

In addition, as an expeditionary unit with many short notice mobilization preparations for crew members, Bonham has been the unit sentinel for ensuring personnel and operational costs were managed appropriately in supporting mission tasking in multiple Coast Guard districts throughout a challenging period of budgetary continuing resolutions. As further testament to her financial stewardship, as the lead petty officer in PSU 301’s expenditures, she achieved a demonstrably superior track record of outstanding performance on all Force Readiness Command audits and inspections.

Furthermore, while serving in the Coast Guard, and on her own free time and initiative, Bonham has earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a master’s degree in Business Administration. Her extensive education, training, and hands-on experience have already paid great dividends to the Coast Guard and the unit.

“It is remarkable what [Petty Officer] Bonham has done for the Reserve community at Joint Base Cape Cod,” said Cmdr. Shawn Nesser, PSU 301 commanding officer. “Her professionalism and can-do attitude made it easy for us to nominate her as the PSU 301 honoree for the 2017 Annual Cape Cod Military Support Foundation Award. [She] truly embodies our core values of honor, respect and devotion to duty.”

The Cape Cod Military Support Foundation Inc. was formed in 2005 to support the military members and their families assigned to Joint Base Cape Cod and the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England Woods Hole. The Foundation supports more than 6,000 to 7,000 military members and nearly 2,000 military dependents throughout the JBCC community.

The CCMSFI annually provides emergency assistance, family services, food services, scholarships, education, and transition programs. The Foundation hosts a myriad of events, which include several holiday parties, golf outings, and most recently, the annual military awards banquet.
