After hundreds of thousands of your votes on our Facebook page, we are proud to announce “Wildlife Control” has won Shutter Shootout 2016.

We thank all of our fans who voted during the past three weeks for participating and helping to decide the Coast Guard Photo of the Year.

“Wildlife Control” features Piper, the wildlife control canine at the Cherry Capital Airport in Traverse City, Mich. Piper keeps the airport clear of pests so aircrews, such as the ones featured in the winning photo from Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City and the Royal Canadian Air Force, can safely transit the area. In this photo Piper was patrolling for wildlife as an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew from Air Station Traverse City and a Royal Canadian Air Force CH-146 Griffon crew take off during a joint search-and-rescue training exercise at the airport Oct. 17, 2015. The Coast Guard routinely partners with local and international agencies to ensure solidarity when conducting rescue operations together.
