Moments ago, Admiral Bob Papp, Commandant of the Coast Guard, released an Independence Day message to the men and women of the Service.

In that message, he reminds us that while many of us will be celebrating the holiday weekend with family and friends, Coasties will be out there defending our freedom.

“Coast Guard men and women are deployed protecting the Gulf Coast from oil, supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom, combating piracy off the coast of Africa, conducting counter-drug patrols in the Caribbean, and at Coast Guard units throughout the world keeping our citizens, ports and waterways safe and secure.”

Admiral Papp also announced that he and Master Chief Leavitt will be joining 200 Coast Guardsmen and their families as the White House salutes America’s heroes on the 4th of July.
