Early this morning, Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater air crews onboard a C-130 plane located the boat carrying a three-year-old boy who was reportedly kidnapped by his father last Saturday, November 28, 2009. The 32-foot sailboat was approximately 100 nautical miles off the coast of Ft. Myers, Florida, when it was spotted by the Coast Guard.

CGC Kodiak Island and CGC Crocodile diverted to the scene, intercepted and boarded the boat without incident. A CGC Crocodile boarding team removed and transferred the 3 year old boy safely to the cutter while a CGC Kodiak Island boarding team completed the law enforcement boarding and took custody of the father. CGC Kodiak Island is towing the suspect vessel back to shore.

An Air Station Clearwater MH-60 helicopter also responded and transferred law enforcement personnel to the CGC Crocodile including a police officer who knows the young boy.

Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg has been working with Florida law enforcement officials for the past three days in the search for abducted boy. Coast Guard search-and-rescue stations, aircraft and Auxiliary members along with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission aircraft had been involved in the search.

CGC Crocodile and the young boy are expected to arrive at Coast Guard Station Ft. Myers Beach at approximately 7:00 p.m. tonight. CGC Kodiak Island along with the sailboat under tow and father are not expected back in port until much later in the evening.
