  • Thousands are using the Internet to honor the seven fallen Guardians lost this past weekend. A Facebook tribute page to the crew of “Rescue 1705” has in excess of 5,650 members. Meanwhile, thousands more have replaced their Facebook profile pictures with the USCG Air Station Sacramento, CA patch in tribute to the fallen Guardians.

  • Admiral Thad Allen is on Capitol Hill today as a member of the Obama Administration’s Ocean Policy Task Force. The Commandant is expected to discuss the merits of a National Ocean Policy and improved governance framework.

  • Guardians are monitoring a runaway fishing vessel off the coast of California. The boat was being shadowed by Coast Guard aircraft while the Cutter Tern was deployed to the scene. The boat was spotted more than 130 miles off the coast of San Francisco, nearly 100 miles away from where the body of the boat’s captain was discovered.

  • Guardians medevaced an injured man from the deck of a fishing vessel off the coast of Alabama yesterday. A helicopter from Air Station New Orleans pulled the fisherman off the vessel prior to transferring the man to a 41-foot rescue boat from Station Pascagoula, Mississippi.
