  • Semper Paratus is the guiding principle behind a joint exercise featuring Coast Guard, Navy and Canadian forces along the Washington Coast and in the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The exercise is aimed at strengthening relationships and preparedness between U.S. and Canadian forces.

  • Yesterday, we reported that a 72-year-old man was still missing after the vessel he and three other passengers were traveling in capsized on Lake Pontchartrain, LA. We are happy to report that he was rescued and safely transported to a local hospital for treatment. Guardians noted that all the rescued boaters were wearing life jackets, which played a critical role in their survival. Click here for video of the helicopter rescue.

  • Guardians are searching for a fisherman who fell overboard 20 miles from South Padre Island, TX this weekend. The mayday call from a crewmember launched a multi-platform effort including a helicopter crew from Corpus Christi, a rescue boat from South Padre Island and the CGC Manatee. The missing man reportedly was not wearing a life jacket.

  • At-sea coordination played a key role in the interdiction of 22 Dominican immigrants this weekend. Guardians on board the CGC Ocracoke intercepted a 25-foot vessel spotted by a Customs and Border Patrol aircraft 20 nautical miles from Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. After interviews by Customs agents, six of the migrants were identified as repeat offenders and removed for prosecution. The remaining 16 migrants were repatriated to the Dominican Republic.

  • Senior Chief Dan Burke hit the ground running as the new Officer in Charge of the Petersburg, AK-based 65-foot CGC Elderberry buoy tender. The Elderberry removed 18 buoys during a three hour window in Gastineau Bay on Friday. Buoy tendering is one of the most dangerous Coast Guard missions.
