  • After months of training, Coast Guard Port Security Unit (PSU) 301 left Cape Cod, Mass., and arrived in Kuwait to relieve their west coast counterparts, PSU 311 from San Pedro. While on deployment, PSU 301 will work with Navy Maritime Expeditionary Security Squadron Five.

  • Over at Erika’s Powerboating blog, she provides some great tips on boating in the fog. As a prior Guardian, she said she learned some great precautions that she still uses today. Here is a summary of her tips… maintain a proper lookout; slow down; use a sound signal; stop and listen periodically; use navigation equipment; stop if you become disoriented and call the Coast Guard on VHF Channel 16.

  • In cooperation with Caribbean Border Interagency Group (CBIG) Law Enforcement authorities, Coast Guard Cutter Key Largo repatriated 26 Dominican migrants and detained eight others. A Customs and Border Protection aircraft crew located a 20-foot wooden boat grossly overloaded about eight miles west of Puerto Rico on Thursday.
