itCG-amazing Alaska rescue, six pulled from water, 1,250 pounds of marijuana seized

  • Two men were found and rescued after they spent 52 hours adrift in the isolated Alaskan Aleutian Islands. The men had to row their 15-foot skiff away from danger and towards their larger 50-foot fishing boat for nearly 31 hours, ultimately using a makeshift raft to reach the larger boat and call for help. Coast Guard searched for over 22 hours and located the men by honing in on their boat as they counted over the radio. An amazing story of courage and survival.

  • Six people, including two young children, were rescued 300-yards off the coast of California after their 19-foot boat capsized. Had it not been for a lifeguard who quickly paddled out to provide flotation and the swift response by local rescuers on jet skis, the outcome may have been very different since they were not wearing lifejackets. As the summer kicks into high gear, please wear a lifejacket. Besides, its the law in most states for children to wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved PFD when underway in a unenclosed boat.

  • 1,250 pounds of marijuana worth about $2.5 million was seized by the Coast Guard Cutter Dolphin when, during a routine boarding, officers noticed the drugs in plain view. On average, every day the Coast Guard seizes or removes over 1,000 pounds of illegal drugs and boards 193 boats.
