Adm. Zukunft testifies at Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation

The Coast Guard had a banner year of counter-drug operations in 2016. All told, Coast Guard men and women removed more than 200 metric tons of cocaine. In addition, 585 suspected drug smugglers were detained and brought to the United States for prosecution. Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Paul Zukunft shared these operations, and more, as he appeared before the Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation today.

Honor, Respect, Devotion to Duty: Enlisted Persons of the Year

The Enlisted Person of the Year program recognizes exemplary men and women from the active and reserve enlisted workforce who reflect the Coast Guard’s core values of Honor, Respect, and Devotion to Duty. Seaman Gregory W. Jacquet is recognized as the 2016 Enlisted Person of the Year – Active Duty Component – and Petty Officer 1st Class Nicole K. Cimino is recognized as the 2016 Enlisted Person of the Year – Reserve Component.

Today, the Commandant was back on the Hill, discussing the need for continued investments in Coast Guard platforms and people with the Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation.

In the first town hall of its kind for the service, Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Paul Zukunft, Vice Commandant Vice Adm. Peter Neffenger and Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard Steven Cantrell conducted a live Facebook Q&A. Hosted on the Commandant’s Facebook page, the Coast Guard’s senior leaders fielded questions from a broad spectrum of Facebook followers – including active duty, reserve and auxiliary members, spouses and members of the Coast Guard community at large.
