There is no “typical” Tuesday in the Coast Guard, but this blog features a snippet of what the Coast Guard was up to on Tuesdays during the month of February. From Antarctica to Key West, with old and new assets, the Coast Guard carried out missions vital to protecting and securing our national interests.
On Friday’s edition of Week in the Life in the Coast Guard 2015, we feature training operations from Honolulu and the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn., as well as oil response and Coast Guard administration in Columbia, Ore., and health services from Base Alameda Medical in Alameda, Calif.
The U.S. Coast Guard is well known for its ability to handle oil and other hazardous material spills, but what isn’t well known is that the service often works with other countries to assist with their marine pollution incidents. In this case, the spill was in the Eastern Sundarbans Reserved Forest in Bangladesh.
Today, Admiral Allen officially retired from the United States Coast Guard. When he wakes up tomorrow morning as a civilian, he will no longer wear the uniform but will continue to serve the nation as the National Incident Commander of the BP oil spill.
