Coast Guard members soar to the 29th annual Women in Aviation International Conference

More than 40 Coast Guard members attended the 2018 Women in Aviation International Conference in Reno, Nevada, in late March in which attendees participated in general aviation events by visiting booths and displays, attended educational sessions of their choosing, and interacted with others involved in the wide-reaching aviation community. The Coast Guard attendees returned to their units with renewed vigor, broadened knowledge and understanding and hopefulness for the future of the Coast Guard.

First female rescue swimmer promoted to chief petty officer

Chief Petty Officer Karen Voorhees is the first woman to advance to chief petty officer in the rate of aviation survival technician since women were integrated into Coast Guard active duty service in 1973.
