Supplying a bright future for the service

How can the Coast Guard recruit and maintain a proficient, self-motivated and adaptable workforce in today’s world? It is simple: we build a diverse workforce. The Coast Guard signed a memorandum with Hampton University, home to the Coast Guard’s College Student Pre-Commissioning Initiative (CSPI) Scholarship Program. Students who are accepted into the CSPI program are enlisted in the Coast Guard and receive full funding for two years of college.


Meeting the needs of the Service

Paul Zukunft Living up to that standard, the Force Readiness Command established a partnership with Hampton University in Hampton, Va. Hampton University is a historically black college and university with a reputation for graduating talented men and women with bright futures.

Release of U.S. Coast Guard Human Capital Strategy

Our human capital management system has not appreciably changed for decades. This afternoon, I signed a Human Capital Strategy that charts an ambitious 10-year course for building a workforce to truly meet the demands of the 21st century. Without question, our fleet of ships and aircraft, and all of our operating communities, are only effective if the people inside them have the requisite training and skill to optimize them, and our Human Capital Strategy is an important guidepost to attain and sustain proficiency in every facet of our diverse response and support portfolio.
