Turning up the heat

Five Coast Guard culinary specialists represented the service in the American Culinary Federation Student Team Championships earning the bronze medal. The team traveled from Yorktown, Virginia, to compete in the championships in New Orleans.

Honor, Respect, Devotion to Duty: CSC Elizabeth Meister

Chicago native, Chief Petty Officer Elizabeth Meister, a culinar specialist, is the 2018 winner of the Douglas A. Munro Award. The award, presented once a year, recognizes Coast Guard enlisted members who demonstrate outstanding leadership qualities and professional expertise. Meister’s commitment to others is seen not only in the galley of Sector San Francisco, but with the mentorship and leadership she provides as well as participation with the victim’s advocate and Leadership Diversity Advisory Council.

Honor, Respect, Devotion to Duty: CS1 Mason Champlin

Having been the special command aide for two district commanders over the past 2 ½ years, Champlin has had plenty of experience being the head chef and event planner for official parties, as well as being the caretaker for everything that goes along with the upkeep of a 100-year-old house and property. For his efforts, Champlin was selected for the 2017 Special Command Aide of the Year award, which recognized him for his leadership, job performance, self improvement, community involvement and commitment to the Coast Guard’s core values.

Week in the life of the Coast Guard 2017 – Thursday

The over 56,000 members of the Coast Guard operate a multi-mission, interoperable fleet of 243 Cutters, 201 fixed and rotary-wing aircraft, and over 1,600 boats. On Thursdays during the month of February, our members not only carried out operations, but also conducted critical maintenance and other support services like providing crews nutritious meals.
