itCG – 3 saved from sinking ship, major drug bust, 1st female rescue swimmer retires, home for the holidays
Guardians rescued three men from their sinking fishing vessel approximately 60 miles into the Gulf of Mexico yesterday. A helicopter out of Air Station Clearwater, Fla. responding to the vessel’s EPIRB (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon) spotted the handheld flare the men were waving from 15-miles out and hoisted them to safety.

itCG – CGC Escanaba navigates through storm, cargo ship underway, search for missing teen, polar bear research
Thankfully, the engineers onboard the disabled India-flagged cargo freighter mentioned in yesterday’s itCG post were able to get the ship’s engine running. All 28 crewmembers are safe onboard the vessel, which is now making way to its intended destination in Portland, Oregon.
