Guardians deploy to Middle East on security mission

Guardians from Port Security Unit 312 deployed yesterday to provide support and protection for high-value assets across the Middle East.
Port Security Units (PSU) provide port security in support of military and humanitarian operations worldwide and are required to be air deployable within 24 hours of call up, operational within 96 hours, and be self-sufficient for up to 30 days. PSU 312 consists of 105 Coast Guard Reservists and six active duty members and is based in San Francisco.
The Guardians of Port Security Unit 312 are among hundreds of Coast Guard men and women currently deployed to the Middle East in support of combat commanders fighting piracy and countering regional threats while also providing port security and training in maritime security to Iraqi forces.
