Auxiliary National Elections

 

Congratulations are in order for the Coast Guard Auxiliary’s newly elected national leaders!

On Friday, August 24, 2018, national elections were held at the Auxiliary National Conference in Orlando, Florida. The newly elected auxiliary national leaders for the upcoming term of office (Nov, 1, 2018 to Oct. 31, 2020) are:

  • National commodore (NACO) – Commodore Larry L. King from the auxiliary’s district eight coastal region. King served in the U.S. Navy both as an enlisted man and a commissioned officer. He completed nuclear power operator training and served in both the nuclear submarine force and on surface ships, specifically in the cruiser/destroyer Navy. King served as a commanding officer both afloat and ashore, and he attained the rank of captain before retiring. After leaving the Navy, he worked as director of quality engineering at Ingall’s Shipbuilding Corporation for seven years. He joined the auxiliary in 2002 and has held a wide range of elected and appointed offices. He is a qualified boat coxswain and qualification examiner. King and his spouse, Carole, reside in Pascagoula, Mississippi.
  • Vice national commodore (VNACO) – Commodore Alexander J. Malewski from the auxiliary’s district one southern region. Malewski has a degree in chemistry from the College of the Holy Cross and a juris doctorate degree from Saint John’s University. He joined the auxiliary in 2000 and has held a wide range of elected and appointed offices. He is a qualified boat coxswain and auxiliary aviator. Malewski and his spouse, Renee, reside in Seaford, New York.
  • Deputy national commodore atlantic area (east) and recreational boating safety – Commodore Agostino “Gus” Formato from the auxiliary’s district one southern region. Formato joined the auxiliary in 2005 and has held a wide range of elected and appointed offices. He is a qualified boat coxswain and qualification examiner. Formato and his spouse, Donna, reside in Nutley, New Jersey.
  • Deputy national commodore atlantic area (west) and mission support – Commodore Edward “Randy” Ventress from the auxiliary’s district eight eastern region. Ventress joined the auxiliary in 2003 and has held a wide range of elected and appointed offices. He is a qualified boat crewman and air observer. Ventress and his spouse, Sandra, reside in White House, Tennessee.
  • Deputy national commodore pacific area and operations – Commodore Wallace A. Smith, Jr. from the auxiliary’s district 11 northern region. Smith joined the auxiliary in 2008 and has held a wide range of elected and appointed offices. He is a qualified boat coxswain and instructor. Smith and his spouse, Jane, reside in Scotts Valley, California.
  • Deputy national commodore information technology and planning – Commodore Linda M. Merryman from the auxiliary’s district 11 southern region. Merryman holds a degree in mathematics from the University of Maryland and is retired from the field of information technology, having specialized in project management and strategic coordination. She joined the auxiliary in 1981 and has served in various positions on the national staff since 1995. Merryman and her spouse, Richard, reside in Pahrump, Nevada.
  • Immediate past national commodore (NIPCO) – Commodore Richard A. Washburn from the auxiliary’s district 8 eastern region. Washburn joined the auxiliary in 2002 and has held a wide range of elected and appointed offices. He is a qualified boat coxswain and vessel examiner. Washburn resides in Holiday, Florida.
