In the Spring of 1970, we landed on the Dallas off the coast of Vienam in order to get help with some critically wounded ARVN soldiers. We had too far to carry them to their hospital and as the medic aboard, I knew I needed help. Everyone on board were really good to us and the doctors aboard helped. Also the cook fed us some sandwiches. We had not had time to eat that day. One of my fondest memories of that period. Wish that I had time to take some pictures but was too busy. Thanks a bunch for the Dallas and the fine crew.

If the Philippine Navy is still able to keep the former USS Atherton in service for 37 years since it was transferred to them until now, I'm pretty sure they will be able to do so for the CGC Dallas for many years to come.

Even though Dallas wasn't one of the 7 Cutters I served on, I feel the loss as she's decommissioned. Perhaps it because my advanced age shows.Â
