I am reminded that it was my daughter, then YN2 (now LCDR) Susan Shanahan that wrote a feature article on CAPT Stratton for the Coast Guard Reservist magazine some years ago. CAPT Bratton was a wonderful inspiration for a long tradition of service -- and equality -- for women in the Coast Guard. This month marks 25 years since I joined the CO of Coast Guard Air Station Houston in administering the oath of enlistment to my daughter. Susan -- and all the wonderful Coast Guard women -- give me reason every day to be a proud father and American.
