In 2009, the Coast Guard partnered with Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) in an effort to advocate healthy, active lifestyle choices in today’s young women and to share career opportunities in the U.S. Coast Guard. That relationship continues to blossom and those attending last week’s WPS All-Star Game just outside of Atlanta, GA, had ample opportunity to learn more about the service.

The Coast Guard’s Silent Drill Team took part in the pre-game festivities, the color guard presented colors and Rear Admiral Sandra Stosz presented the game ball prior to kick-off. A small boat crew from Station Brunswick and a flight crew from Air Training Center Mobile were on hand to share their Coast Guard experiences with soccer fans.

“Women’s Professional Soccer and the U.S. Coast Guard are both organizations in which outstanding women can achieve great things,” said RDML Stosz, Director of the Coast Guard Reserve and Leadership Directorate. “Our partnership allows the Coast Guard to play an active role in mentoring America’s young women alongside some of the world’s most accomplished female athletes while showcasing the Service as a great career opportunity.”

Back in April, we blogged about Abby Wambach and Sonia Bompastor’s visit to Station Washington, D.C. During the course of the day, the two all-stars were clearly impressed not only with the Coast Guard but with the opportunities available to women in the service.

“I think any female athlete would be a perfect fit for the Coast Guard,” said Wambach. “Athletes are team players and the military needs team players. I would encourage anyone who wasn’t still protecting goals to consider protecting our country.” (Click here to read the rest of ‘Soccer superstars spend a day with the Coast Guard’.)

This is a great postive image portrayal for the USCG. Does anyone know if there is a source where the jerseys can be purchased? Every soccer playing daughter of a Coast Guard member would love to own one!

That’s a great question and I’ll pose it to the folks over at Recruiting Command who manage this relationship. Stand by.

If you are talking about the womens professional team jerseys, they can be bought through their website: Not sure where you guys are, but jerseys can also be purchased at local soccer stores or dicks outdoor sports.

    Folks,

We’ve contacted Women’s Professional Soccer and, unfortunately, there are no All-Star Game jerseys for sale at this time. If this changes and we hear about it, we’ll be sure to let you know.

I’d been checking all kinds of sites looking for the all-star replica jerseys too- before I saw this post.

As I former coastie and soccer dad of 3 girls, I was hoping to buy these jerseys for the kids.

Good to see the USCG getting their name out there. Also, the USCG recruiting site is very cool!

Please let us know if they ever make those jerseys available!
