  • The search for a passenger seen jumping off a cruise ship near the Bahamas on New Year’s Eve was suspended yesterday. The search as suspended after multiple air and sea assets searched 3,725 square miles for the 23-year-old woman.

  • Three men and a dog were rescued from a grounded fishing trawler off the coast of North Carolina yesterday. The crew and pet were hoisted by a helicopter from Air Station Elizabeth City as weather made the vessel unsafe. Efforts to free the vessel are ongoing.

  • While there are several hundred Guardians serving in the Middle East, LCDR Jim Robertson will be taking on a unique role as he represents the Coast Guard in Iraq. Robertson has been deployed to Iraq’s only deep water port at Umm Qasr to help officials there bring their facility into line with international port standards for traffic monitoring and security as they prepare for future commerce with the rest of the world.
